Father Blair and dutch media culture
There is some change in the air. I will from now on just comment on the daily happenings of the world. Like the English elections in which it is to be hoped that a shift of power will take place. I think the British people deserve a change and clinging to new hopes of betterment and New Labour will make the living of a lie which the current government is doing even more demanding and upsetting. It is a bit like living in a family where the man did something wrong and does not dare to admit it. Even more: he is downplaying, misrepresenting and finally wants to say he is slightly sorry for the embarrassment caused afterwards. You know who I mean of course.
For the rest in the netherlands again nothing much is going on as I figure from its daily newspapers. There is the remembrance of the second world war which is covered quite extensively in the media. Miss Hischi Ali is again being in the news. Some talk on the liberty of the press about the separation between opinion and fact and the way dutch media should polarize opinion more and give more attention to muslim terrorism. Probably Ms (or Mrs) Ali is referring to giving more attention to this tiny group of people who have dealings with terrorists or are terrorists themselves. For my part I had the impression that already enough attention was given to this small group of people. But I might be wrong of course. Maybe we should also address our terrorism a bit more. But of course actions causing terror in others that were perpetrated by us had only been accidental terrorist actions with the intention of doing good (a ATA-IDG in military speak).
For my part I do not care so much about opinion. It is good that is there but the most important opinion is my own, which I would like to verify myself as much as possible. That is not to say that one should not listen to what others say, but as long as I cannot prove it for myself it remains ambiguous, like most news in the world.
Well, Bugger me...
